KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudan has ordered the closure of all Eritrean opposition offices in the country and a halt to their activities against the government of Isaias Afwerki, the state-owned Sudanese Media Centre news agency said.
The Sudanese Media Centre gave no reason for the move on Sunday, but the independent Al-Sahafa daily said it reflected developing relations between Khartoum and its Horn of Africa neighbour.
Al-Sahafa said the Khartoum government had summoned representatives of the Eritrean organisations several days ago and ordered them to stop activities and close their headquarters.
A Sudanese foreign ministry spokesman had no immediate comment.
The United Nations refugee agency UNHCR said in February that thousands of Eritrean refugees, many fleeing mandatory military service or jail, had arrived in Sudan in the past year.
