Egypt Suez Canal revenues rise to $471 mln for June

CAIRO (Reuters) - Egypt's revenues from the Suez Canal rose to $471.4 million in June 2008 from $358.8 million in the same month last year, the government said on Monday.

The canal is an important source of foreign currency for Egypt, along with tourism, oil and gas exports and remittances from Egyptians living abroad.

The number of vessels passing through the waterway fell to 1,819 in June from 1,840 in May but rose from 1,657 in June 2007, the government said on its Information Portal (http://www.eip.gov.eg/search/Search_Page.aspx)
